 NEEDED:
  • 2 shuttles, each wound with a different color
  • 1 ball of a third color
  • 1 small rubberband (optional: for holding shuttles together while tatting chains)

ABBREVIATIONS:

  • ch = chain
  • cl r = close ring
  • r = ring
  • rw = reverse work
  • - = picot
  • + = join

Note which color of thread will be shuttle 1 vs. shuttle 2.

With Shuttle 1: R 3-3-3-3 (Cl R and RW after each Ring)

Add Shuttle 2 thread and Ball thread to pinch.

Begin a chain, tatting with both shuttle threads as base thread:
Ch 4-4-4 (RW after each Chain)

*With Shuttle 2: R 3+3-3-3

Ch 4-4-4 (tatting with both shuttle threads, as before)

With Shuttle 1: R 3+3-3-3

Ch 4-4-4 (tatting with both shuttle threads)

Repeat from * 2 more times.

With Shuttle 2: R 3+3-3+3

Ch 4-4-4 (tatting with both shuttle threads)

Cut and tie ball thread ends together, or thread one of shuttle thread ends on a needle and thread it through the back of a ds near base of first ring. Finish ends as desired, or use as a decorative stem.

This sample was tatted with Anchor Cordonnet size 20. 212 Dark Green; 756 Yellow and 794 Pink.
