FLOATING RING EDGING

"One of the principle reasons for the mock-ring is its ability to carry ornamental rings upon itself, which the real ring cannot do."   Elgiva Nicholls
Of course. that was written quite a few years ago and was referring to something even before that but it was all I needed to come up with this pretty two-colored edging.

REQUIRED:
Two shuttles are required, each wound with a different colored thread -- #1 and #2. The rings are made with #1 thread and the chains and floating rings with #2.

Close all rings.

ABBREVIATIONS:
  • RW = reverse work
  • - = picot
  • -+ = A picot the first time and a join thereafter

INSTRUCTIONS:
Tie threads together with an overhand knot.

Form a loop around left hand with #1 thread.

Adjust both shuttle threads to same lengths and work with both shuttles (taped one on top of the other with double-sided tape) as one -- or use Blue Tack (although the kind I have found in the USA has proved to be a bit too sticky and leaves residue so beware)!

* RING with #1: 6 -+ 6; make a Floating Ring by separating the shuttles and with #2 and close up to the last double stitch make a ring of: 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 ; tape shuttles together again: 6 - 6; RW

CHAIN with #2: 8 - 8; RW

Repeat from * for as long as required. Hey! I didn't say it was going to be quick!
