Since we've recently had a few e-mail queries about joining split rings - sometimes known as "mouseholes" (very aptly, says Teeny Tatmouse) - TT has decided, once again, to come out of hibernation to share her knowledge on this subject... 1. When joining the first half of a split ring into a picot of another ring or chain, a regular join should be worked. 2. When joining the second half of a split ring (don't forget that the core thread must be allowed to slide within the stitches), position the core (ring) thread behind the picot to be joined into (a) and the shuttle thread to the front of the work. Bring a loop of the core thread from the back to front, through the picot (b). Slip the shuttle through this loop (c). Maneuver this loop back through the picot, taking the shuttle thread with it (d). Take up the tension on the threads and proceed as usual when joining into a picot. (Since you're working second half then first half stitches, you should work a first half to complete the join.) |
